During Laser Surgery, a laser beam viewed through an operating microscope (colposcope), is used to destroy abnormal cells, tissue or lessions. The energy of the laser beam, which is actually the most intense form of light known, causes the diseased cells to be instantly evaporated like water becoming steam. Laser surgery is recommended for patients with abnormal cells determined by a Pap smear or biopsy, cervical abnormalities, or HPV (Human Papiloma Virus - the virus that causes genital warts). A health educator can answer questions about laser surgery and schedule an appointment for patients.
